I wrapped up Tortured Soul and began sending queries at the same time I went back to school. Amazingly and to my utter delight, I received a contract in July of 2012 and have been riding the best high I've ever had.
Julia was born in Chicago, Illinois. She holds a B.S. in Education and an M.A. in School Administration. She has taught the fourth grade for the past ten years. As much as she loves teaching, her true passion has always been the written word. She still lives in Chicago, Illinois with her husband, newborn daughter and cocker spaniel.
Julia's first novel, Tortured Soul was released in 2013. It is a paranormal romance featuring werewolves, vampires and witches. The second in the series is due out in 2015.
julia laque'S BEGINNINGS
One sleepless night in college, I tossed and turned, anxious over a big test the following morning. That very night, my first story took root, surprising the hell out of me. Every day since, story upon story began fighting their way to the forefront of my mind. I'd just started my career in teaching and, unfortunately, could not find the time to put pen to paper. A year later, a favorite author of mine said that I was too young and to wait till I was at least thirty. And so I did, jotting down my ideas in journals along the way, waiting for the right time to begin.
Alas, I could wait no longer and wrote my first contemporary novel. After submitting to about twenty-five publishers and receiving great feedback, but no contract, I gave up and shelved it. After reading it several dozen times, I knew I could do better.
I'd always been an avid reader and my love for romance rivaled my love for writing. I went to bed two years ago and was visited by two characters, my heroine, Evangeline and her captor, Adam. I worked on Tortured Soul on school nights, weekends and holidays. Overwhelmed with work, home, planning a wedding and writing, I actually stalled for a while till Adam woke me up, yet again, demanding to finish his story.
